LYNN CANYON APPROACH SPAN

Project Type

Bridge Rehabilitation

Location

North Vancouver, BC

Surespan rehabilitated the Lynn Canyon Pedestrian Suspension Bridge, replacing deteriorated timber approach spans with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete pad at the west approach and new concrete post foundations at the east approach. With no vehicle access, materials and demolition debris were transported by ATVs and trailers along the trail, while an engineered skyline cable system was used to transfer materials between the two sides of the canyon. The work took place within an active park, approximately 500 m from the nearest access point with a 60 m elevation change. An engineered temporary wire-rope lifeline system provided fall protection for crews working adjacent to the canyon, while fencing, detour signage, and coordination with park users allowed the work to proceed safely in the constrained site.
