FISHERMAN’s TRAIL & RIVERSIDE DRIVE BRIDGES

Project Type

Pedestrian Bridges

Location

North Vancouver, BC

Surespan constructed the Fisherman’s Trail pedestrian suspension bridge across the Seymour River and the adjacent Riverside Drive steel girder bridge over Canyon Creek, restoring trail and road access in North Vancouver. When construction revealed that bedrock at the suspension bridge’s west-side tie-back anchors was significantly deeper than anticipated, Surespan developed a cast-in-place wall system to resolve the resulting anchor capacity issue. The system also served as a buttress retaining wall, eliminating the need for a large volume of rip-rap armouring. For the Riverside Drive crossing, Surespan proposed a clear-span redesign that eliminated in-stream pier construction and concrete work, reducing environmental impacts and the construction schedule at no additional cost to the Owner.
