Surespan supplied and constructed a new cable-stayed pedestrian and cycling bridge for the City of Courtenay, BC, with steel and precast concrete components fabricated by affiliate Surespan Structures. The signature structure features a 65-metre main span and 16-metre backspan, supported by cast-in-place concrete foundations, steel HSS tower elements, stay cable assemblies, micropiles, ground anchors, specialized bearings, and tuned mass dampers. The project also included partial-depth precast deck panels with a concrete overlay, bridge railings, lighting and electrical works, cast-in-place concrete approaches, pathway and intersection upgrades, paving, drainage, landscaping, environmental protection, traffic control, and restoration works. The completed bridge provides a dedicated pedestrian and cycling connection across the Courtenay River.
