COQUIHALLA CANYON TRAIL

Project Type

Pedestrian Bridges

Location

Hope, BC

Surespan demolished an existing pedestrian bridge and constructed a new clear-span steel girder crossing within the Coquihalla Canyon, while also replacing the timber deck and railing on a second nearby pedestrian bridge. The project included significant rock stabilization work along the corridor, including rock scaling, rock anchors, pinned mesh, rockfall protection, and rehabilitation of three tunnels with rock anchors, pinned mesh, and shotcrete. With access limited to a pedestrian trail and no crane access to the bridge site, Surespan removed the existing girders using a pulley system, removed the mid-span concrete pier by wire sawing, and launched the new girders into place using a rock-anchor cable system, rollers, and a low-friction slider system.
