Surespan was proud to support the South Kent Wind Project, a major renewable energy development led by Samsung Renewable Energy and Pattern Energy Group LP. Managed by RES Canada, this marked their tenth renewable energy project. Construction began in July, with Surespan providing cranes and specialized equipment for the turbine erection.
The main crane, “Vivian,” a new LG1750 from Surespan, was joined by several RT (rough terrain) and AT (all terrain) cranes from various suppliers. Throughout construction, an average of 300 Surespan workers were on-site, reaching 500 during peak periods. Extreme weather posed challenges, including heavy rains in June and temperatures as low as -40°C during winter.
Despite these conditions, our equipment with winter backup systems ensured that the project to be continued. Snowstorms and poor visibility would halt work, but once conditions improved, our teams quickly resumed operations, keeping the project on track for completion.
The South Kent Wind Project highlighted our commitment to quality control, project management, and delivering large-scale renewable energy solutions. We are proud of our team’s continued resilience through the project to make it successful.
