Surespan was contracted by Windley Contracting to erect and launch the structural steel for the Sombrio #1 Bridge. The bridge consists of 4 girders spanning 407 feet over a 100 foot deep ravine. This launch was particularly interesting as the final stage of the launch saw the structural steel cantilevered over the pier by 268 feet with +/- 640,000 pounds of counterweight sitting on the back of the Steel. A 270 Ton crane was used to lift the structural steel into its final resting place on the abutment.
