Alexandra Bridge Deck Rehabilitation and Seismic Safety Retrofit, Spuzzum, BC
In 2017, the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure awarded Surespan Construction the contract for the Alexandra Bridge Rehabilitation and Seismic Safety Retrofit. This construction project, which began in March 2017, is set to be completed by November 2018. The project aims to enhance the bridge’s safety and durability with the following scope of work:
Reinforced concrete overlay and deck cantilever to strengthen the structure.
Abutment modifications and approach slab construction to improve support and accessibility.
Supply and installation of new structural steel work, including parapet railings, bearing assemblies, finger joints, and expansion joints, ensuring the bridge meets modern safety standards.
Modification and recoating of existing structural steel work to maintain integrity and extend the bridge’s lifespan.
Approach transition paving and other minor works to improve roadway integration and traffic flow.
